I’d like to introduce myself and explain my mission. My name is Alexander Birukoff, and I am an economist by training. Years ago, I became so consumed with my career that I completely neglected my health. As a result, in my mid-30s, I was diagnosed with prediabetes, obesity, and hyperlipidemia. I think many of you can relate to this situation, as it’s very common—especially in a place like America, where 69% of the adult population is overweight and 36% is obese, more than in any other country in history.
At that point in my life, I realized that I had to make a change. However, I lacked the knowledge and information needed to address the consequences of neglecting my health for so long.
One day, my 3-year-old son slightly dislocated his elbow while playing and falling down. We didn’t even see how it happened. He ran to us in tears, pointing at his elbow and complaining about the pain, unable to move his arm properly. While my wife prepared to take him to the emergency room, I quickly Googled “what to do if a child has elbow pain?” The first result was a video demonstrating how to fix an elbow dislocation. It showed just two simple arm movements performed by a doctor on a boy who seemed to have the same issue and was about the same age as my son. After watching the video a few times, I decided to try the protocol on my son.
When I performed the last movement, I heard something like a crack, and suddenly, my son smiled through his tears. In minutes, he was back playing with his toys as if nothing had happened. That moment showed me the true power of medicine, and it was a turning point in my life.
I’ve always heard that health is the most valuable thing we have, not only for ourselves but for our families, friends, and loved ones. After this experience, I decided to change my career and enter the medical field so I could help keep my community and loved ones healthy. I vividly remember working as an economist, where my daily goal was to earn money for my boss, who would share a percentage with me as my salary. It’s a unique and, in some ways, selfish story, but in the medical field, I can give back to my community. I take great pride in that. I also admit that the idea of having a good salary in the medical field helped motivate me.
At this point, I had already addressed my own health issues. I completed a bachelor's program in nursing, worked for five years as a Registered Nurse (RN), and became a Family Nurse Practitioner by earning a master’s degree and passing the State Board Exam. With my education and practical experience, I was able to make a difference in the lives of many people. I’ve helped many patients completely overcome Type 2 Diabetes, where they no longer need to inject insulin or take other diabetic medications.
I now proudly educate patients about proper diets, physical activities, and lifestyle modifications to prevent them from facing the challenges I did. I aim to guide them away from making the same mistakes and provide simple, daily tools for better health. Helping people prevent these diseases remains my number one motivation, and I’m confident that this passion will never go to waste.
